PFAS refers to a class of thousands of synthetic compounds that have been widely used since at least the 1950s in many products and other applications because of their ability to resist grease, oil, water, heat and stains. There has been an unprecedented level of activity, which is expected to continue to increase, at the federal, state, local and international levels to regulate PFAS due to the alleged harmful effects to humans associated with exposure to PFAS.
