Patent

Our attorneys are actively engaged in every critical area of patent law, from patent prosecution and global portfolio management to licensing and enforcement. With former in-house counsel and registered patent attorneys on our team, we serve as trusted advisors to heavy industry, manufacturing companies, startups, universities, research institutions and other businesses looking to protect and profit from their intellectual property assets.

We help clients analyze and draft patentability, validity and freedom-to-practice opinions, negotiate licensing agreements for domestic and international patents, and provide custom, in-house training support for technical and marketing personnel. We also monitor and police the patent activities of our clients’ competitors and defend or pursue infringement claims in U.S. and international forums.

Areas of Focus

Counseling & Portfolio Management

Our attorneys regard patent counseling and portfolio management as paramount to the execution of a cost-effective patent strategy. To help clients maximize the return on their patent investments, we employ a thorough, selective and business-focused approach to both patent application filings and the development, budgeting and maintenance of our clients’ global portfolios. Our patent attorneys also advise on implementing procedural guidelines and cross-referencing systems to facilitate the disclosure and evaluation of new inventions. We are equally adept at conducting R&D and manufacturing audits to identify patent-related assets with significant commercial value. Once identified, we work with clients to implement commercially effective strategies for protecting those assets. We work hand-in-hand with clients to avoid potential patent issues as they develop new products and address any issues that do arise.

Patent Prosecution

From medical devices and heavy equipment to manufacturing materials and software, our patent prosecution experience runs the gamut. We help many of our clients evaluate the patentability of new inventions and execute effective strategies to protect those inventions in both the U.S. and internationally. We draw on our technical savvy and cross-industry experience to help clients successfully obtain commercially valuable patent protection.

Litigation

When the need arises, we represent clients in patent cases around the country. We regularly enforce our clients’ patent rights and defend them when they are accused of infringing others’ patents.
