We are proud to provide this annual service to you—our valued clients and friends—as a way of saying thank you. Again this year, our seminar is being offered in person as both a morning and afternoon session.

Impact of the 2024 Election and Other Public Policy Trends

Just two days after Americans vote for a new President and determine control of Congress, Katie Eagan (FBT Government Relations Principal, Republican strategist) and Jonathan Miller (FBT Partner-in-Charge, Washington, D.C. office, Democrat leader) will break down the election’s legislative and regulatory impact on businesses. Drawing on their experiences—Eagan as a former Executive Director of the Ohio Republican Party and Miller as a former Kentucky State Treasurer—this session offers expert insights from both sides of the aisle on what the results mean for the business landscape.

As AI continues to become more prevalent in everyday business, it’s reshaping the landscape for contracting and technology transactions. Navigating Tax Challenges: SALT Issues and the 2024 Presidential Election

Internal Investigations 101

Frost Brown Todd attorney Ari Fox will address the basics of conducting internal and regulatory investigations that could be helpful not just for in-house legal, but for HR, compliance, and managers generally. She will cover the basic steps of preserving documents, maintaining privilege, and will answer questions such as:

  1. When confronted with possible wrongdoing, what steps should the company take?
  2. How should it approach personnel decisions?
  3. When is there a need to notify the government?
  4. How should a company respond to a government inquiry?
  5. When should a company use outside counsel?

What’s New in Non-Compete Law?

Frost Brown Todd attorney Simon Svirnovskiy will cover the latest status of the FTC’s Proposed Non-Compete Rule, Litigation involving the proposed rule, and other updates and trends in non-compete enforceability (or lack thereof) across other states. Simon will also present some best practices in agreements and potential alternatives to non-competes to try to protect companies’ trade secrets and other IP.

PFAS: No Longer an Emerging Contaminant

PFAS refers to a class of thousands of synthetic compounds that have been widely used since at least the 1950s in many products and other applications because of their ability to resist grease, oil, water, heat and stains. There has been an unprecedented level of activity, which is expected to continue to increase, at the federal, state, local and international levels to regulate PFAS due to the alleged harmful effects to humans associated with exposure to PFAS. This presentation will provide an overview of current and upcoming regulations for PFAS and strategies for managing potential liability and litigation risk, including a focus on the due diligence that is needed for businesses to determine whether they are complying with federal and state PFAS reporting requirements, manufacturing, distribution and use bans and restrictions.
