Biography

Yugo’s practice focuses on data privacy compliance for a variety of companies including multinationals, major national companies, small-medium size enterprises, startups, and non-profits. This practice includes international data transfer issues covering the General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”), the United Kingdom’s Data Protection Act 2018 (“UK GDPR”), and the Brazilian General Data Protection Law (“LGPD”) compliance for foreign data transfers to the United States, data privacy impact assessment, privacy impact assessment, and legitimate interest analyses. With domestic data privacy issues, Yugo advises on a variety of U.S. state privacy law issues including compliance with CCPA/CPRA on website privacy policies, service provider agreements, Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (“COPPA”) compliance, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (“FERPA”) compliance, Telephone Consumer Protection Act (“TCPA”), and CAN-SPAM Act compliance. He is also experienced in international privacy laws such as China’s Personal Information Protection Law (“PIPL”), Japan’s Act on the Protection of Personal Information Act (“APPI”), and Singapore’s Personal Data Protection Act (“PDPA”).

Of note, Yugo is a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP) for the United States (CIPP/US), Europe (CIPP/E), and a Certified Information Privacy Manager.

Yugo assists clients with intellectual property infringement litigation in the high-tech and manufacturing technology industry. He works with American and Asian companies in the IP arena. He has litigated before the U.S. International Trade Commission and Federal District Courts. He is also experienced in assisting and advising Japanese companies and foreign-owned subsidiaries in the U.S. with various legal needs.

Yugo is a Bengoshi (Japanese Attorney) who litigated before the Tokyo District Court and Tokyo High Court. There, he represented technology companies on matters ranging from patent and trademark licensing agreements to international mergers and acquisitions.

Yugo has significant experience advising and representing companies in various industries on intellectual property litigation, proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board of the United States Patent and Trademark Office, IP-related international arbitrations, and patent monetization strategies. He has also advised companies on global patent enforcement strategies leading to favorable licensing and settlements for his clients.
