With a diverse background in technology and IP law, Matt frequently assists startups and early-stage companies in developing and executing effective IP strategies, safeguarding their innovations, and helping them grow their businesses.
As a dedicated advocate and prior board-member of the Cincinnati Intellectual Property Bar Association (CincyIP), Matt actively participates in the association’s events and initiatives, contributing to the development and advancement of IP law within the local community. Matt also sits on the board of the Northern Kentucky University Research Foundation (NKURF), an organization that supports NKU’s efforts to promote the development, implementation, and coordination of extramurally-sponsored and foundation-supported programs involving research, instruction, and public service, furthering the mission of the university.
Before joining Frost Brown Todd, Matt gained valuable experience working at two IP boutique firms where he sharpened his skills in trademark registration and enforcement, copyright protection, and patent prosecution.
In addition to his legal expertise, Matt brings a unique perspective to his practice, having worked as a software engineer and as a graduate research assistant at Ohio University, where he earned a BS and MS in computer science. This technical background enables Matt to effectively counsel clients across a broad range of industries, from technology startups to established businesses. With this background, Matt also has a strong interest in the intersection of artificial intelligence (AI) and the legal field. Having studied AI during both his undergraduate and graduate studies in computer science, Matt is uniquely positioned to operate at the forefront of AI and its impact on the legal world. His background in AI and technology enables him to effectively counsel clients on emerging legal issues and challenges associated with AI, as well as to anticipate potential shifts in the legal landscape.

Outside of his professional life, Matt is deeply committed to giving back to his community. He sits on the board of May We Help, an organization that designs and creates unique custom solutions for individuals with special needs, providing them with adaptive equipment and support to enhance their quality of life, promote inclusion, and help them gain independence or pursue their passions. Additionally, Matt was appointed by the Anderson Township Trustees to serve as a Commissioner for the Anderson Park District. In this role, he is committed to promoting the efficient operation of the Park District and enhancing community access to recreational spaces.
