Biography

Matt is a highly regarded intellectual property attorney with deep expertise in trademark law, copyright, and related litigation. Recognized by World Trademark Review since 2021 as one of the world’s leading trademark professionals, Matt advises a broad range of clients on brand development, global trademark portfolio strategy, clearance, registration, and enforcement.

Known for his practical and business-focused approach, Matt helps companies protect and strengthen their brands at every stage of growth. He frequently counsels startups, emerging ventures, and established corporations on effective IP strategies that align with long-term commercial goals. In addition to his trademark work, he has experience in patent and technology matters, giving him a well-rounded understanding of how innovation and branding intersect.

Before joining FBT, Matt practiced at two intellectual property boutique firms, where he developed deep experience in trademark enforcement, copyright protection, and portfolio management. He is a former board member of the Cincinnati Intellectual Property Law Association (CincyIP) and currently serves as Vice Chair of the Northern Kentucky University Research Foundation (NKURF), supporting research commercialization and public-service initiatives.

Outside the office, Matt is committed to service and community impact. He has served on the board of May We Help Development, a nonprofit that designs adaptive equipment for individuals with special needs. He also served five years as a Commissioner for the Anderson Park District, helping to enhance and preserve the community’s parks and recreational spaces.
