The India Business Law Journal (IBLJ) named Frost Brown Todd (FBT) to its 2023 “Regional Firms to Watch” list. One of only 20 firms included, FBT was commended by the IBLJ for its successful representation of a U.S. software company with an Indian holding company during an acquisition. The deal involved a myriad of tax and intellectual property considerations, along with extensive negotiations among multiple parties. “Frost Brown Todd has the bench strength,” the IBLJ noted, “to handle large and complex mandates for Indian clients needing counsel on corporate and commercial issues, financing, intellectual property, dispute resolution, labour law, international trade, and tax.”

FBT Dallas Partner Bobby Majumder also caught the attention of the IBLJ, which highlighted his leadership of the firm’s India Desk and significant experience advising international clients on M&A and private equity transactions in both the U.S. and Indian markets. He was also selected for the sixth year in a row as a member of the IBLJ International A-List, which recognizes the top 100 India-focused legal practitioners in the world.

“This honor comes at a time of growth for both Frost Brown Todd and our international services team,” said Majumder. “As a result of our 2023 merger with California-based firm AlvaradoSmith, we added Monisha Coelho to our India Desk team. Not only is Monisha licensed to practice in both the U.S. and India, but she also has an extensive and impressive record of resolving cross-border contract and real estate disputes. Monisha’s background complements our team’s strengths in other areas, such as commercial finance, intellectual property, international trade, and regulatory compliance.”

Now in its 17th year, this annual assessment looks at the performance of over 600 law firms from around the world that have worked on matters in India or for India-based clients over the past year. From this pool, the IBLJ editorial team selects the foreign firms that have successfully taken on complex projects and cases, with the “best commercial minds and legal intelligence on offer” to Indian businesses.

The IBLJ previously honored FBT, citing the firm’s data privacy, patent, and tax counsel as critical to helping numerous Indian startups break into the U.S. market. Selections for the “Regional Firms to Watch” list are made in close consultation with corporate counsel and law firms based in the region.
