Gene practices in the firm’s litigation department. He devotes a significant amount of his time to cyber-security counseling and defending insurers in matters relating to first and third-party claims, including a variety of liability, indemnity, health, maritime, and contractual claims.

Gene draws on his experience as a Rear Admiral in the U.S. Navy, recently serving on Active Duty as Deputy Commander of U.S. 10th Fleet and Fleet Cyber Command to augment his work in Admiralty and Cyber-security. While on Active Duty he led or assisted in responses to dozens of cybersecurity incidents, directly supporting U.S. Cyber Command, U.S. Navy and other agencies within the Department of Defense. He represents insurers and vessel owners on seaman’s claims, Jones Act, Longshoreman and Harbor Workers’ Act, and issues relating to cargo and barge disputes.

Gene also handles employee benefit litigation, primarily ERISA matters for health and welfare benefits plans and subrogation issues. These include claims relating to denial of benefits for medical treatment and disability benefits.

Additionally, Gene has been featured as a guest speaker at many significant cybersecurity events with industry, military and political leaders, including several senators and congressmen.
