Ava specializes in intellectual property litigation, assisting clients with the resolution of patent, trademark, trade dress, copyright, and trade secret disputes in federal district court and in proceedings before the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO), including both the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) and the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB).
With respect to patent litigation, Ava’s experience spans across a variety of technologies, including medical systems, instrumentation, and devices; dental instrumentation; aircraft systems; camera arrays; locking devices; and machine attachment parts.
Ava also has experience litigating other types of complex commercial litigation matters, including unfair competition, tortious interference, and breach of contract cases involving intellectual property issues.
Ava handles pre-litigation enforcement of the intellectual property rights of clients.
In her practice, Ava routinely prepares various litigation papers, such as dispositive motions and related memoranda. Her responsibilities extend to arguing discovery and evidentiary disputes to federal district court and Federal Circuit judges, developing litigation strategies, taking and defending depositions, preparing claim construction briefs, preparing infringement and invalidity contentions, preparing witnesses for deposition and trial, and assisting with expert witnesses.
In addition to her professional role, Ava frequently shares her intellectual property experience with students at the University of Cincinnati College of Law through guest lecturing, including in “Intro to Intellectual Property: Practice One” and the “Client Counseling Workshop.”
