The Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs are highly competitive, with grant recipients earning up to $150,000 in initial seed funding and up to $1 million in subsequent stages. Though the SBIR and STTR programs differ in key respects, both offer equity-free funding to encourage small businesses to ramp up their research and development (R&D) with the potential for commercialization.
