Frost Brown Todd (FBT) Counsel Bruce Wu has earned the Certified Information Privacy Professional/Europe (CIPP/E) credential from the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP), further expanding the firm’s data security and privacy capabilities, particularly for clients doing business in, or with, the European Union.
The CIPP/E is a globally recognized credential awarded to professionals who demonstrate a deep understanding of European data protection laws and regulations, with a particular emphasis on the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Credential holders must also show they are knowledgeable with respect to key data privacy frameworks, terminology, and risk management strategies for cross-border data flows.
“The European privacy framework currently serves as the model for many jurisdictions,” said Wu. “Earning the CIPP/E certification has not only deepened my understanding of the intricacy and nuance of the European privacy framework, but it has also allowed me to look at the different privacy paradigms around the world holistically. This, in turn, strengthens our firm’s ability to provide more comprehensive privacy counsel to clients with international operations.”
In addition to the CIPP/E, Wu also holds both the Certified Information Privacy Professional/United States (CIPP/US) credential and the Artificial Intelligence Governance Professional (AIGP) credential from the IAPP.
At FBT, Wu is a member of the firm’s Private Equity and Venture, Intellectual Property, and Outside General Counsel Services teams, with experience serving as fractional general counsel for multiple growth-mode companies. He advises clients in the high-tech, AI, and bio-tech sectors on a broad range of legal matters, including patent, trademark, and copyright procurements, as well as corporate governance, financing, due diligence, commercial transactions, and regulatory compliance such as data privacy and security.
Wu earned his doctorate in engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and previously served in several C-suite positions, including as chief legal officer and chief people officer. He is based in FBT’s San Francisco and Washington, D.C. offices.
