Younkers Department Store Explosion and Fire

On a cold Sunday morning in November, 1978 an explosion and fire occurred in the Younkers Department Store in Des Moines, Iowa, resulting in the death of 10 trapped employees. The cause of the explosion and fire could not be determined with certainty and, as a result, extensive litigation ensued. The case lasted for years and culminated in a 13-week "causation" trial.
