Shayla is an Associate in the Real Estate and Commercial Finance practice groups. She focuses her practice on the purchase, sale, development, financing, leasing, and management of commercial and residential real estate properties, including raw land. Shayla also represents borrowers and lenders in New Markets Tax Credits transactions through which borrowers construct or rehabilitate facilities which will contribute to the economic development of low-income communities. Shayla works with a range of clients including publicly traded conglomerates, nonprofits, and closely held businesses.
Shayla is the Attorney Chair of the firm’s Inclusion Network for Black team members and she serves as a Director of the Hearing Speech + Deaf Center.
While in law school, Shayla served on the Student Bar Association as a Senator for Faculty Appointments and as the inaugural Chief of Staff. She also served as Professional Development Chair of the Moritz Black Law Students Association and was an active General Body Member. Shayla spent her last semester of law school studying abroad in Madrid, Spain at Comillas Pontifical University in their Master of International and European Business Law program. Before pursuing her J.D., Shayla received her MBA, concentrated in Ethics and Governance. She spent a year serving in AmeriCorps VISTA and has worked in various roles in budget planning and nonprofit governance. Shayla is from Dayton, OH, a proud stutterer, and a dog mom.
