Biography

Laura concentrates her practice in helping insurance carriers and their representatives in matters involving complex coverage issues and in insurance bad faith litigation. She provides in-depth research, analysis, opinions, and recommendations to insurance clients regarding defense/indemnity, property coverage, “other insurance issues,” and strategy with respect to ongoing investigations and existing or anticipated suits/claims. She also initiates declaratory judgment actions involving coverage issues and defends insurers and their representatives in litigation where there are concerns with respect to coverage and/or the threat of claims alleging bad faith.

Laura started her career as an insurance defense litigator, representing insureds in all stages of litigation, including trials and appeals in both federal courts and Kentucky state courts. Laura now represents insurers and their representatives against claims for breach of contract, indemnity, contribution (and the like), and extra-contractual claims, including first-party and third-party bad faith. She has experience preparing litigation actions to obtain declaratory (and other) relief in state and federal courts.

Progressive Specialty Ins. Co. v. Burke, 6th Circuit Court of Appeals – Served as litigation counsel and obtained summary judgment in favor of insurer on a underinsured motorist claim involving an all-terrain vehicle.

Assurance Co. of America v. Dusel Builders, Inc. U.S. District Court, Western District KY – Served as litigation counsel and obtained judgment in favor of insurer in a declaratory judgment action regarding coverage sought under a commercial general liability policy.

Dubord v. GMRI, Inc., U.S. District Court, Western District KY – Served as litigation counsel and obtained summary judgment in favor of insured on a dram shop claim.
