Karissa specializes in patent and intellectual property law and assists clients with the preparation and prosecution of domestic and foreign patent applications. Her diverse legal experience includes patents, trademarks, and intellectual property litigation in a variety of industries, including medical device, sports and recreation, and manufacturing. Karissa cares deeply about her clients and is committed to helping them safeguard their hard-earned intellectual property.
Karissa started her career at FBT in Cincinnati, where she was a two-time Summer Associate, then spent her 3L year as a law clerk in the Dallas office. Prior to joining FBT, Karissa gained industry experience working in clinical cardiology MRI research and industrial automation engineering.
Karissa earned her B.S. in engineering and a law degree through an accelerated 6-year program at Texas A&M University. Her engineering coursework focused on biomedical, electrical, and mechanical engineering, facilitating her current practice in patent and intellectual property law. In addition to her studies, Karissa was a college waterski athlete and managed a college and career advising program for a rural Title I school district. Prior to attending A&M, Karissa also spent two years studying abroad in Tübingen, Germany.
In her spare time, Karissa enjoys spending time with her large northwest Ohio farming family, ideally at the lake or around a dinner table.
