John’s practice focuses on corporate, transactional, and oil and gas matters. Having served for many years as a solo general counsel and previously as a transactional insurance broker, John brings broad experience across diverse legal fields. He regularly manages financings; mergers and acquisitions; oil & gas transactions; complex contract drafting, review and negotiations; corporate governance matters; dispute resolution oversight; transactional insurance procurement; and a range of other business issues. Additionally, John acts as outsourced general counsel for small and mid-size companies that lack sufficient in-house legal resources.
John brings more than two decades of legal experience to the firm, with a distinguished career spanning private practice, corporate leadership, and specialized advisory roles.
John began his legal career at a preeminent energy law firm in Houston, where he quickly established himself in energy law and corporate governance. Over the years, he has held multiple senior in-house legal roles, including serving as General Counsel for three different oil and gas companies. His most recent position was as Executive Vice President, General Counsel, and Corporate Secretary for the general partner of a major energy portfolio company.
In addition to his corporate counsel experience, John led the Texas practice of a boutique insurance advisory firm specializing in transactional risk coverage, including representations and warranties insurance and tax liability protection.
