Complex human resource issues can be like minefields, but every supervisor and HR professional can begin to problem solve like a management attorney. “It starts with knowing the terrain – with the right map, thinking several steps ahead, nearly any territory can be safely traversed,” says Robert D. Hudson, an attorney and member in Frost Brown Todd’s Florence, Kentucky, office. Hudson is the author of the newly released book The HR Lawyer Within You – Human Resource Strategies for Legal Success, which provides frameworks for tackling key hiring, management and firing dilemmas. Last week the book garnered early national recognition, receiving the Best Business Book Award at the Great Southeast Book Festival.
Hudson has more than 25 years of experience representing management clients in all phases of labor relations. His practice includes various aspects of labor and employment consulting, equal employment opportunity, legal compliance training, union avoidance, collective bargaining, labor arbitration, and employment litigation. Hudson has served as president and board member of several labor relations organizations and has founded educational series for human resource personnel. He has written articles and presented a multitude of speeches and seminars on labor and employment topics. Through counseling and responsibly managing controversies for clients, he concentrates on preventative legal work, which is also the focal point of his new book. Presented in a straightforward style devoid of legalese, The HR Lawyer Within You reaches both human resource beginners and experienced practitioners.
