Frost Brown Todd (FBT) has added Erica Mecler Caron as a Partner in the Product, Tort & Insurance Litigation practice group in Columbus, Ohio. She joins the firm from Liberty Mutual Insurance Group, where she served as Senior Litigation Counsel.
At Liberty Mutual, Caron managed an active case load of insurance coverage and excess exposure matters spanning from commercial to professional liability lines. She led litigation strategy for cases both initiated by and brought against Liberty Mutual, navigating a range of jurisdictions — including high-exposure venues such as California, Washington, Missouri and New York.
“Erica’s combination of in-house and private practice experience is something our clients truly value,” said Yazan Ashrawi, Office Partner-in-Charge at FBT’s Columbus office. “She understands the pressures legal departments face and what they need from outside counsel to manage risk effectively. Her impressive litigation track record across an array of liability areas — including in some of the most challenging jurisdictions in the country — will offer valuable strategic advantages to our clients navigating complex, high-stakes cases.”
Caron’s work involved close collaboration with outside counsel and internal stakeholders, along with thorough review of briefs, discovery and other litigation-related materials. She regularly partnered with business groups, including underwriting and product teams, to ensure coordinated and effective approaches to complex legal and coverage issues.
“Having sat in the client’s seat, I know how important it is for outside counsel to offer advice that aligns with broader business goals,” said Caron. “I’m excited to join a team that values collaboration and client service so highly and look forward to helping expand Frost Brown Todd’s insurance coverage capabilities by offering a responsive, solutions-focused approach tailored to clients’ evolving needs.”
Caron earned her Juris Doctor from Suffolk University Law School and her bachelor’s degree from Smith College. She previously serves as a legal mentor for Discovering Justice’s Mock Trial Program, volunteering weekly to help 8th grade students explore justice and argue mock cases.
