  • Former Indiana Department of Local Government Finance Commissioner Joins Frost Brown Todd

Frost Brown Todd (FBT), a full-service national law firm, welcomes Daniel T. Shackle as Counsel in the firm’s Indianapolis office. Most recently serving as the Commissioner of the Indiana Department of Local Government Finance (DLGF), Shackle brings a wealth of experience in municipal law and public finance to FBT.

Shackle’s extensive background includes previous roles as General Counsel and Chief of Staff at DLGF, as well as Chief Legal Officer at the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles. His deep understanding of local income and property taxes, combined with his experience in drafting legislation at both state and local levels, positions him to significantly enhance FBT’s capabilities in these areas.

“Dan’s expertise aligns perfectly with our growing municipal practice,” said Indianapolis Partner-in-Charge Kandi Hidde. “His insights into property tax levies and collections will be invaluable, especially given the complexities often encountered in these areas. His experience working with state governmental clients including the Governor’s Office, legislature, and executive agencies also expands our reach in the state.”

Shackle’s role will not only fill out FBT’s local and state tax practices but will also support the firm’s public finance and government services practice groups. His ability to navigate the intricacies of local and state government and public finance matters including tax legislation, budgeting and assessment will greatly benefit FBT’s clients.

“I am excited to join Frost Brown Todd and contribute to its mission of providing exceptional legal services,” said Shackle. “I look forward to leveraging my experience to support our clients and enhance the firm’s capabilities in municipal and public finance law.”

A life-long resident of Indiana, Shackle is a graduate of Oklahoma City University School of Law and holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Indiana University, Bloomington. He is also a former Captain in the United States Army and a recipient of the Bronze Star Medal for his service during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
