U.S. Supreme Court 2024-25 Term: Key Decisions and Industry Impact

October 1, 2025 Article Collection

As the U.S. Supreme Court begins its new term, Frost Brown Todd has collected in one place summaries of notable rulings from the court’s 2024-25 term. This survey does not encompass every case decided during the term or those rulings that generated the most media coverage. Instead, as in prior years, the survey focuses on those rulings that are likely to be the most relevant—and thus, most helpful—to our clients.

That said, the 2024-25 term was not lacking for blockbuster rulings. The Supreme Court rejected the rising use of “universal” injunctions, upheld a state statute banning gender-affirming care for minors, and reinforced parents’ rights to voluntarily opt out students from certain school curriculum for religious reasons.

But other rulings that garnered fewer headlines—concerning topics like employment wage exemptions, attorneys’ fees, standing for indirectly related parties, and protections for retired employees under the ADA―may prove more immediately consequential to industry. Each summary includes a “key takeaways” section that focuses on the likely impact of the rulings.
